The Gardens Celebrated May 11-17 with Food, Fun, Team Pride and a Hawaiian Luau

With a theme of “Living the Aloha Spirit,” The Gardens at DePugh celebrated National Nursing Home Week May 11-17, 2014.

Each day featured a fun event for residents, family and staff, leading up to a Hawaiian-inspired setting to conclude the week.

The festivities started with Monday’s ice-cream social, followed by a groovy Oldies Tuesday. The music and costumes got a little wild for Wacky Wednesday, and everyone wore a favorite team jersey for Sports Thursday.

But Friday’s luau proved the most popular, as folks enjoyed some island rhythms before finally saying “aloha” for the night.

“Everyone had such a wonderful time,” Administrator Tonya Oliver said. “At The Gardens, we like being able to kick back and have fun. It’s a beautiful thing to see people so happy and full of joy.”

According to the American Health Care Association, National Nursing Home Week, which began in 1967, is a way to foster relationships between nursing home residents, family members, staff and the greater community.
